Fieldcrest schools along with the City of Wenona and Marshall County participated in the active shooter program on Monday March 10, 2014. An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims. Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes--before law enforcement arrives on the scene--individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation. The following resources provide information of preparing for such an incident and what to do if confronted with an active shooter. Mr. Brian Rooney principal at FC East gave members of the City of Wenona PD and the Marshall County PD of the school. Mr. Rooney and the police departments went over their policies and how to keep the students of FC safe in an emergency. City of Wenona PD particiaptes were Nick Hert, Tom Martin and Jason Sprandling. Marshall County PD participates were Robert Vester and Wayne Straun. Marshall County and the City of Wenona canine units were also on hand to provide additional aide.
